About Orchid

Orchid was formed in the University town of Amherst, Massachusetts in 1997, then home to a powerful punk scene that spawned bands like Dinosaur Jr.. Fronted by Jayson Green, the band pioneered a genre known as emoviolence, combining furious, dizzying guitars and drums with screaming, anguished vocals and the poetic sorrow of Nietzsche. Along with bands like Pageninetynine and Shikari, Orchid took emo and hardcore to the next level.

In 1997, Orchid released 2 demos and in 1999 released their debut album Chaos is Me to critical acclaim from critics and fans alike. The album was followed by Dance Tonight! Revolution Tomorrow! in 2001 and Gatefold in 2002. Orchid played their last show that same year and broke up permanently afterwards. Many screamo and hardcore bands of the 2000s and 2010s have cited Orchid as a major influence on their sound, and they are considered one of the most important bands of the ‘90s hardcore and emo scenes.
