Gentle Giant

About Gentle Giant

Gentle Giant was a progressive rock band that was active for about a decade (1970 to 1980). The band’s signature was complex and sophisticated musical compositions that blended elements of rock, folk, soul, jazz and classical music.

The band was not commercially successful and achieved most of their success through a cult following by their fans.

The band members were from a group known as Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, an R&B group made up of brothers Ray, Derek and Phil Shulman. Kerry Minnera, Gary Green, and Martin Smith later joined the group prior to the release of their self-titled studio album in 1970.

By 1980, the group was falling in popularity having never achieved any real commercial success and decided to disband.
