About 6ix9ine

Born on May 8th, 1996, Daniel Hernandez, better known by his stage name Tekashi69 or simply 6ix9ine, is a Brooklyn-born Mexican rapper. Previously known by the name Wallah Dan, 6ix9ine gained immense popularity and fame in October of 2017 with the release of his breakout hit “GUMMO”. The single reached the 1st position on the SoundCloud music charts for a week, it peaked at the 12th position on the Billboard Hot 100, and gained over 100 million streams combined from YouTube and beyond.

Tekashi’s biggest hit, however, is “FEFE”, featuring Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the month of August 2018. The song has gained half-a-billion views on YouTube and is Tekashi’s most played song on Spotify, with 325 million plays.

His debut mixtape, DAY69 was released on February 23, 2018, and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 Chart. The mixtape was re-released on April 10th, 2018, and was given the name DAY69: Graduation Day. 6ix9ine’s debut album, DUMMY BOY, came out on November 27th, 2018, four days delayed due to his arrest for racketeering and firearms offenses.

Outside of music, Tekashi’s style has garnered much attention from his fans. From his long, rainbow-dyed hair, to the number ‘69’ being tattooed multiple times all over his body, Tekashi’s eccentric appearance distinguishes him from much of the industry and has turned him into an internet meme.

6ix9ine is no stranger to breaking the law. In 2015, Tekashi pled guilty to allegations about him having sex with a minor, in November 2018, just before the release of his first album, Tekashi was arrested for aforementioned racketeering and firearm charges which might give him a possible life sentence. Tekashi’s arrests and controversies are an important factor of his uprising into fame.
