The fate of his sophomore album ‘Eternal Atake’ is uncertain.

Lil Uzi Vert surprised fans by posting on Instagram Live that he “deleted everything” and seems to be finished as an artist.

Uzi Vert has expressed exasperation with hip-hop before, specifically in a 2017 FADER cover story where he said he hates “This rap shit.” At the time, he said that he continued to do it to support those around him financially.

“I gotta take care of my family. That’s the curse right there. I gotta take care of my whole family. That’s why I can’t stop,” he explained. “If I ain’t have to take care of nobody, best believe I’d be regular as fuck.”

Throughout late 2017 and 2018 Uzi dropped a bevy of snippets and announced the record in July 2018. In December, Uzi announced at a show in his hometown of Philadelphia that he finished Eternal Atake.

Uzi recently appeared to express dissatisfaction with his label on “Shells,” his collaboration with Shabazz PBG, while also referencing Ma$e, who took a five-year hiatus from mnusic and became a minister. Uzi is signed to Atlantic Records through Generation Now, which was founded by DJ DJ Don Cannon. On “Shells,” Uzi raps:

Tryna figure out how I’m gon' get out my deal
I’m a bad boy, a reverend, I feel like I’m Ma$e

Uzi Vert is not the only recent rapper to express that they’re going through turbulent times. In a since-deleted tweet, CupcakKe wrote that she was “about to commit suicide,” later updating fan that she had been struggling with depression for a long time and was “finally getting the help that I need.”

Genius broke down Lil Uzi Vert’s unique position within hip-hop and the influence Marilyn Manson has had on him in the video below.
